We take pride in all of our products and treat them with the utmost in care while packaging and shipping. We prepare, hand-cut ordered selections of cheese and package all baskets and products the day they are shipped to ensure freshness. We make every effort to ship in-stock orders within 24 hours of receipt when order is received Monday through Friday.

A few things to keep in mind.  We ship Monday through Friday, except for major holidays for non-perishables and Monday-Wednesday for perishables (see exceptions and perishable shipping policy below). National and regional weather conditions as well as other factors beyond our control may affect delivery times.

Free Shipping

We offer free ground shipping for all orders over $49.  Should you need any Express shipping options, please contact us (we are always here to help!) or select the 2nd day options on the cart page.  

Standard Shipping

Based on your shipping address, we determine the most efficient shipping carrier for your order. The carriers used include USPS, UPS, Fed-Ex and OnTrac. The map above shows estimated delivery times for standard (ground) shipping. Saturday delivery is not usually available with standard (ground) shipping without additional charges.

2nd Day Shipping

If your shipment is going outside of zone 1 or 2 and you need it expedited, this is for you. Since ground shipping times are only estimates, if you package is going to zone 2 and you absolutely must have it guaranteed on time, choose 2nd day. Second day shipping is delivered on the second business day. This means a 2nd day package going out on Thursday will be delivered on Monday. Friday shipments will be delivered on Tuesday. Depending upon the destination, USPS, UPS, Fed-Ex or OnTrac may be used. You can however, choose 2nd Day Saturday Delivery for an additional charge.

Next Day Delivery

If you need your package the next day, email or call us and we?ll provide a shipping quote. If you reach us prior to 1pm PST will make sure your package goes out the same day.

Shipping to a PO Box

USPS is our only option here.  Sorry, we only ship non-perishable items to a P.O. Box.

Shipping Internationally

We cannot ship internationally due to import/export restrictions.  Shipments to Puerto Rico incur additional charges.  Please call us for quotes.

Shipping of Perishable Items

Perishable items are shipped Monday thru Wednesday for all zones,  with the following EXCEPTIONS:

Standard shipping within Zone 1 – this is usually a one day shipping schedule, therefore we ship Monday thru Thursday. Friday shipping for Saturday delivery is available with prior arrangement and an additional charge.

Standard shipping within Zone 2 – this is usually a two day shipping schedule, therefore we ship Monday thru Wednesday. Thursday shipping for Saturday delivery is available with prior arrangement and an additional charge.

Cheese & Perishable Orders

We pack all our orders with the utmost of care.  Cheese and all perishable items in particular, are carefully packaged to maintain optimum quality.  As needed, your order will be packed with ice packs and placed in an insulated container and cushioned with packing peanuts for shipment.  If the destination is outside of zone 1 or 2 on the above map, a minimum of 2nd day shipping is required and should be chosen from the drop down menu at checkout.

Cheese orders are shipped Monday through Wednesday. We will ship Thursday for those shipments that we feel confident can be received by Saturday.  Please remember to unpack and refrigerate promptly upon delivery. Clever Hen will not assume responsibility for any incorrect addresses provided; delivery, return and re-delivery charges will apply. We strongly recommend you confirm that the recipient or other responsible party will be available to receive, open, and properly store you order. We are unable to replace cheeses and other perishable items that perish due to recipient’s being unavailability at the time of delivery. Furthermore, please note that our boxes are clearly marked “perishable” on the outside and we are not responsible for the items received but not opened. Please inspect all packages upon receipt and notify Customer Service within 24 hours with any problems. Credit refunds will not be granted if unsatisfactory items are discarded or consumed.

Chocolate Orders

During the months of May through October, chocolate requires a minimum of 2nd day shipping. Please choose 2nd day or Next Day shipping at checkout during these months or when weather conditions are unseasonably warm. We use cold packs and insulation for temperature control of chocolate during the warm seasons.

All Beverages Containing Alcohol

Any orders that contain any type of alcoholic beverage, such as wine, port or champagne is subject to an adult signature at the time of delivery.  This is required by law to be certain the package is delivered to an adult and not a minor.  This means someone over 21 will need to be at the delivery address to receive the package and sign for it.  Please plan and advise the recipient accordingly.

Baskets/Oversized Shipments

Baskets and large/overweight items are not eligible for free shipping over $49.  This is due to the high cost of shipping baskets and all heavy or oversized items.   We make every effort to keep the cost down for our customers by absorbing the major portion of the actual shipping costs.  With this in mind, all baskets and oversized/heavy shipments are charged a flat rate shipping fee of $9.99.

Delivery

We guarantee delivery only to the address you provide. Shipments that you re-direct and shipments to incorrect or incomplete addresses cannot be guaranteed to deliver on time.  Further, Clever Hen will not assume responsibility for any incorrect addresses provided deliver, any returns and re-delivery charges will apply.  We strongly recommend you confirm that the recipient or other responsible party will be available to receive, open and properly store your order.  We are unable to replace cheeses and other perishable items that perish due to recipient’s being unavailable at the time of delivery.

Hot Weather Conditions

We are constantly monitoring national weather/temperature conditions. During unseasonably high temperatures, we may require 2nd day or even Next day shipping to ensure freshness of perishables. Having a heat wave in December? choose 2nd day shipping at checkout to be sure your perishables stay cool.
